kids in the kitchen #1

Part of the work of neighborhood strengthening lies in youth development- parents and friends helping children discover their gifts and identities in Christ, learn life skills, practice serving and contributing in their neighborhoods, and developing as leaders who will one day be carrying the vision and working to develop others in the same way in their neighborhoods.

Tonight, a group of six adults joined three boys in the Salvation Army kitchen for the first of five "Kids in the Kitchen" evenings.

The boys came eager to cook, and cook they did! The sights, smells, and conversations around the kitchen were all invigorating. The results? Two soup pots of delicious chicken noodle soup simmering on the stove, and a multitude of scrumptious mini cheesecakes, all of which will hit the freezer until next week.

What about next week? The students will be joined by more of their peers, and together with the grown-ups, they will venture out to strengthen their neighborhood by bringing gifts of soup and cheesecake to three elderly friends in the Walnut neighborhood. God is good through this newly formed team of chefs!
